The Fabrications, 3 Models
Fabrication 1, Facade Model 1:30, The Beehive
Concrete Casting, Laser-cutting, Mould making with curved surfaces, Paint
Street Elevation of The Beehive, Complexity in the amount of tiles being laid at various configurations. Around 1100 tiles were painted for assembly.
|
The screening concept of the Beehive is captured here, this image replicates the subdued and refracted light rendered on the façade at night, a glowing aura that gives presence to the building.
|
Fabrication 2, Site Model 1:1000
CNC, Rhino + Fusion 360,Woodworking techniques: Bandsaw, Disc Sander, Sandpaper, Oil Finish
Crafted from solid Kauri Pine Hardwood, the base of the model is produced using CNC whilst woodblocks have been cut precisely to slot into the building pads as excavated in the CNC process.
|
Utilising hardwood and hand craftmanship, produces a model that feels incredible to touch. It is a model that is both aesthetically pleasing and robust.
|
Topography of the surround site is replicated, with roads milled with indent of 1mm, whilst pathways in the park have been milled at 0.5mm |
Wood blocks being sanded at varying heights and sizes. Varying grits of sandpaper have been used to achieve smoothness and a high quality finish so that oil can be applied. |
Concrete Casting, Laser-cutting, Mould making, Paint template
Cast as a sculptural object the concrete has been moulded with a 2mm recess on the outer edge.
|
The tiles are replicated with paint with the use of a laser-cut template.
|
Side elevation of stair detail showing recess offset of 2mm, acyrlic has to be sanded to an angle of 15 degrees to accommodate this recess. |
